Holidaymakers 'should have adequate insurance'
Holidaymakers in the UK have been told to ensure they have adequate insurance when heading abroad on breaks.
Research by Halifax has found that almost five million tourists had long-haul mini breaks scheduled this year, while there has been a 35 per cent increase in demand for such holidays in the past year.
The study also revealed that the US is the most popular destination for people looking for a short break abroad in a country which requires a long haul to get to.
Paul Birkhead, Halifax Travel Insurance's pricing and underwriting senior manager, said the better quality of airlines and the lure of winter sun were two of the reasons why more people are enjoying such breaks.
However, he added: "Holidaymakers should not risk travelling without adequate insurance just because they are taking a short break.
"Travel insurance will cover you for the unexpected, making it vital that everyone has it."
Online insurance provider esure also recently urged newlyweds to ensure they are covered before they head off on their honeymoon.
